With Dr. España’s highly diverse clinical experiences and training in child & adolescent, adult and forensic psychiatry, she is able to knowledgeably lead discussions about a broad range of topics with a diverse range of audiences. Dr. España aims to lead engaging, informative, and transformative spaces for learning with youth and adult learners. She has extensive experience in public speaking, including leading presentations and workshops at local, regional, and national conferences as well as with community organizations. She is an educator for medical trainees and holds a leadership position in the formal training of child and adolescent psychiatrists at OHSU. Some examples of prior presentation topics include: children’s mental health, social determinants of health for youth and adults, the school-to-prison pipeline, structural racism, healthcare inequities, cultural psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, the child welfare system, trauma and trauma-informed care, human trafficking, and narrative building.
Dr. España’s professional background and experiences position her as a valuable resource for a wide variety of stakeholders who wish to address the structural drivers of inequity experienced by their communities. In her engagements, she joins with clients to understand their specific personal and organizational needs. She can offer meaningful consultation on individual and systems level practices that contribute to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. In addition, Dr. España offers valuable expertise on the impact of trauma on mental health. She has worked alongside various hospital systems on the implementation of trauma-informed practices. Dr. España can collaborate with stakeholders to move towards intentional systematic action and change.
